The aim of the workshop is to make participants aware of the different possibilities that can be used to create a personal publication that best describes their own project, whether for a work publication, an artistic research or a story of a trip. Various books will be shown, alternatives to the classic publications, which will serve to stimulate the participants to create editions that adapt to their story. We will also take into consideration publication models and methods, as well as marketing management.
workshop proposal 2 days On the second day of the workshop there will be a more practical part where all the tools and instructions to become publishers of a photographic publication, a fanzine or a traditional bound book of photography will be provided, for this reason the evaluation of the sample of some typographic papers will be fundamental and printing methods. We will also take into consideration models and methods of publication, even with reduced budgets, and then move on to the aspects of editing, design and marketing. A fundamental part of this second part of the workshop will be the vision of the participants’ projects in order to be able to give targeted suggestions to create their own publication.

The seminar will illustrate some photographic books that speak of protest split by nation, mainly concerning the 1960s and 1970s, a period of strong dispute. In that twenty years the photographic book had a determining role for the communication and diffusion of the movements. The vision of these publications, rarely available, will allow us to understand their evolution, the peculiarities of printing, the graphics and the layout, focusing on their communication and use that has often crossed over into propaganda.
